Hair transplantation Terminology

Follicular Unit of adult human scalp follicular unit is a naturally occurring entity, consisting of 1-4, sometimes 5, terminal hair follicles, 1 or rarely 2, vellus follicles, sebaceous associated with pleasure-flying, additions, and Pili arrector muscles, their nerve and blood vessels and fine plexuses adventitial collagen, which surrounds and defines the unit (perifolliculum).

Follicular Unit Graft to graft that is obtained Dissecting out the individual, naturally occurring follicular unit. It is also known as follicular unit implant in a term, which means that (unlike most of the slips), the ratio of hair / skin, follicular unit is greater than the original donor of the implant site, as some non-hair bearing tissue is cut away from the autopsy.

Micrograft 1-2 hair transplant. It may consist of a natural one and two hair follicular units, or from the larger units, which are broken down.

Minigraft 3-6 hair follicles transplanted from either unit, multiple follicular units or more partial follicular units. As is apparent from Walter Unger, it may be further classified into small and large minigrafts 3-4 hairs minigrafts are 5-6 hairs.

The slit-graft hair transplant from either a series of 3-6 follicular units or more partial follicular units for post-mortem techniques specifically trying to produce a linear arrangement of the follicles or the follicular unit. This may in turn be classified as small-gap 3-4 hair grafts, and a large slit-grafts of 5-6 hairs.

Follicular Unit Dissection technique in which a natural, individual follicular units cut from the donor tissue that has lost one of the strip (with no more than two-bladed knife blade) to keep the follicular units intact. Some of the non-hair bearing tissue removed a large part of the overall reduction in the implant. Stereo-microscopic dissection is not necessary.

Mini-Micrografts or slit grafts to size-dissection technique, in which the donor strip is divided into specific sizes to produce the number of hair grafts they contain and / or the amount of tissue, suitable for a specific recipient site. Elimination of excess skin is not required. Dissection can be done with or without magnification, and the donor tissue can be removed as a single bar or multi-bladed knife.

Follicular unit hair transplantation method of restoring surgery in which hair is transplanted exclusively in its natural, individual follicular units. Single strip harvesting and stereo-microscopic dissection to be done. Recipient of the graft must be placed in small incisions.

Mini-Micrografting method of hair transplantation using grafts containing 1-6 hair, groups that do not necessarily correspond to the natural follicular units. The recipient can establish whether the incisions, excisions (removal of tissue), or both.

Two Extremes Terminology: Science vs. Marketing

Soon after publication, Seager advised to add another term, "Follicular family." (7) To paraphrase Dr Seager:

If Dissecting follicular units are sometimes unclear which entity would appear to "stray" hair falls. In other words, from time to time is not entirely clear which one follicular unit objectives and the next one begins. If one is specifically trying to create a greater density, would be accompanied by a stray hair (unusually) close neighboring follicles larger unit, which contains three potential hair. This technique would create four furry unit, when there were no units at all four hairy. It is found in two separate units, which appear to be close enough to almost "belong together." If two adjacent units are chosen correctly, the resulting entity can be very difficult, sometimes impossible to distinguish between naturally occurring follicular unit.

The key to success in this endeavor is the concept of "Follicular family." If one ( "non-family"), two follicular units randomly to two times, resulting in graft size becomes minigraft instead micrograft. It would be a greater need for the recipient site, which would prevent the close packing of the restrictions on planting techniques and the impairment of scalp vasculature. If on the other hand, despite their larger, they are forced to micrograft minute-sized recipient sites, they would be traumatized at the time of writing attempts.

Although the concept of "follicular family" was introduced to take into account the differences in the anatomy of follicular unit and the operation of such changes, other conditions are not necessarily based solely on scientific grounds.

Blatant misrepresentation of follicular unit time was the "Follicular Unit Coupling - Slot role for grafting hair transplant." (8) In this case, the author of a new concept to the original socket grafting method. This technique was used to slit grafts harvested with a multi-bladed knife and then cut into thin pieces and placed in a large hole to remove the skin with a rectangular punch. The deadline was a new marketing campaign and follow, but the technique was the same as the original, without any attempt to use or maintain the follicular units.

Between these extremes is a continuous struggle to describe what we make it clear exactly how - which is evolving concepts and methods of increasing the number of. Issue at hand can be distinguished, which are the conditions, including natural science and which are just blurs it.

Making Sense of FU Salads

> From the list of acronyms will be opened all the recent meeting of the ISHRS, it seems that we again have to step back and examine the new conditions, to see that represent different ideas or methods, which is perhaps redundant. Below are the first pass through the screening test, the six sense that we think is the most confusing and most overlap. They come in two groups: the first is Coupling FU, FU pairing Double marked (DFUs) and more marked (MFUs). The second group includes FUE and FIT.

As to the first group, we believe that there are two different situations that we are trying to communicate with the doctor for these terms. The first is a technique by placing two separate dissected follicular unit grafts the recipient of one of the site. This differs from the commonly used concept of "doubling-up", which many doctors have identified two micrografts putting in one place. Our proposal is to use the term to refer to the technique by placing FU pairing of two separate isolated follicular units at one of the recipient. We recommend that you discard the word FU Coupling, if it is wrongly associated with the slit grafting procedure earlier literature and its use is unclear.

The second situation is when the doctor puts the two (or more) of follicular units, which are not allocated to the autopsy, a single hole. We believe that this is clearly not of follicular unit transplantation. The reason is that the main advantage of the fut, it was to isolate an indication of someone to remove some non-hair bearing skin between the notation in order to reduce the majority to be grafted. This in turn allows the physician to use a smaller recipient address to connect to the wounded, at least, to enable more secure transplanting grafts per session, etc., etc., using a variety of non-dissected follicular units, in our view, creates a larger wound, and will achieve none of these goals.

We do not want to say that doctors should abandon the technique. Some of the best surgeons to add these grafts with their own procedures. We're just suggesting that it does not fut. Well, what should one call them? Our answer is to call them, they have always been, namely, micro-grafts, mini-grafts and slit grafts. If one argues that they are now different due to use stereo, we agree. In this case, microscopically dissected grafts should be called the micro-grafts, mini-grafts and slit grafts, to communicate that follicular transection can be prevented. But they have still not been more than a follicular unit grafts pedicle flap is a follicular unit transplantation. To avoid confusion, we recommend elimination of the conditions DFUs and MFUs.

What we call eyebrow transplants? According to the majority of hair restoration techniques that surgeons, where they share the donor strip into single hair, the hair should be invited to one of the micrografting. If one uses the contra-lateral donor eyebrow hair, then it may indeed be the fut.

FUE and FIT

The increased rate of transection FUE harvesting techniques, the use of sharp punch (compared to a single strip harvesting and stereomicroscopic autopsy) were some of the doctors as soon as the question of whether such arrangements should be classified as the type of follicular unit transplantation. (9) The introduction of the blunt dissection technique by Harris, significantly reduced the damage to the follicles, and increased retention of follicular units FUE as the argument for classifying the type fut is much stronger - but certainly not bullet-proof - in some cases substantially from remains and transection of the follicular unit can not be collected. (10)

Follicular isolation Technique (FIT) is a term used by Cole and Rose, which refers to the FUE technique that uses a punch with a "stop" to limit the depth of penetration. Although the authors of these and other questions need to distance doctors stop the extraction method, FIT FUE can be better than the word as a whole entity was not created. We believe that if the aim is simply to extract the hair follicles rather than all units of FIT-term priority.

Conclusion

Overall, the authors suggest that the following four terms added to the initial classification.

Follicular family in two closely adjacent follicular units are dissected one grafted on, so that they fit the same size of the largest recipient of your natural follicular unit is normally used in the procedure.

FU pairing technique by placing two separate isolated follicular units into one recipient site.

Skip FUE donor extraction time has been deliberately separated from the follicular unit. If the depth stop is used, it must be noted.

FIT Direct extraction time has been deliberately separated from one or more hair follicles less than the entire unit. (In other words, the direct extraction of micro-grafts). If the depth stop is used, it must be noted.

Micro-grafts, mini-grafts and slit grafts, which are dissected under a microscope in order to avoid follicular transection should just turn it, namely: a microscope, micro-dissected grafts, mini-grafts and slit grafts. These authors do not feel that these procedures should be classified as the type of follicular unit transplantation. We also recommend that the conditions FU Coupling, DFUs and MFUs confusing and should be abandoned.
